The Society is a conglomerate of diverse disciplines and personalities. These include Mining Engineers, Petroleum Engineers, Metallurgists, Geologists, Hydrogeologists, Geochemists, Geophysicists etc. The following categories of membership are recognised:

(a)        Fellows: Corporate Members of the society, who have distinguished themselves in the profession, and have contributed significantly towards the development of NMGS for a minimum period of ten years.

(b)        Corporate members: Persons, who have successfully completed a period of approved training in the professions and must  have  practised for at least 3 years after such training.

(c)        Graduate members: Persons, who have successfully completed a period of training in the professions but have not practised for at least 3 years.

(d)        Affiliate members: Persons who have engaged for at least six years in the professions or in scientific or technical works, but do not qualify for admission into corporate membership.

(e)        Student members: Bonafide students or full time undergraduates or diploma students in mining, petroleum technology, metallurgy, geology or other disciplines related to earth sciences.

(f)        Institutional members: Institutions, Corporations, companies or organisations associated with the profession.

(g)         Honourary fellows/members: persons who in the opinion of the council, have distinguished themselves  in the professions and or in their callings, and have contributed significantly to the progress of the society.
